I’d like to share a tool I’ve been working on called LicenseAtlas:
LicenseAtlas is a license explorer for software, data, AI model, and agent licenses. It currently covers 2,623 licenses and related terms from sources such as SPDX, OSI, GNU/FSF, Creative Commons, ScanCode LicenseDB, Hugging Face, GitHub, Open Data Commons, RAIL, OpenAtom, and others.
The main page lets you search across license names, SPDX IDs, sources, and full license text. You can also filter licenses by category, such as software, model, data, agent, and terms, or by tags such as permissive, copyleft, Creative Commons, hardware, and related groups.
Each license page brings together the license text, source metadata, category and tag information, popularity data, and related projects where available. For selected licenses, it also shows trend data from Hugging Face, GitHub, and Kaggle, plus popular GitHub repositories, Hugging Face models, and Kaggle datasets using that license.
There is also an OSI License Review Tracker:
The tracker covers 179 OSI license-review submissions. It shows review status, timelines, first and decision dates, board vote records where available, and linked submitted license texts from public OSI review and discussion records.
I built LicenseAtlas mainly as a research and navigation tool. The goal is to make it easier to search license text, compare license metadata, follow OSI review history, and see how licenses are used across software, datasets, AI models, and newer agent/tool ecosystems.
I hope it can be useful for people who need to explore licensing information across different open source and open model communities.
