Open-Source Projects I’d Like to See and Support

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share some thoughts about the kinds of projects I’d love to see in the open-source world and get feedback from others who might have similar interests. I’ve been involved in libre software for a while, and I’m particularly drawn to projects that emphasize creative freedom, historical preservation, and ethical licensing.

Some key areas I’m interested in:

Voxel-Based Virtual Worlds – I’m working on Global Village, a historical reconstruction project using libre software like Minetest now luanti. The goal is to create an explorable, community-driven world where history and storytelling can come to life. I’d love to see more libre projects focused on interactive history and simulation.

Ethical Licensing and Ownership Models – I’ve been thinking a lot about how open-source licenses intersect with sustainability as it pertains to AI/LLMs.

I’d like to see more discussions on ethical licensing, particularly in cases where developers lose access to their own projects due to corporate takeovers claiming that their LLMs wrote the code and not the developers.

How can we create resilient open-source ecosystems that preserve developer autonomy?

I’d love to hear from others who are working on or interested in similar projects. What libre software projects do you think are missing today? How do we ensure long-term sustainability for the ones we already have?

Looking forward to the discussion!
