Recently, Meta announced that Llama has been downloaded [1 Billion times](https://about.fb.com/news/2025/03/celebrating-1-billion-downloads-llama/).

Interestingly enough, Clem Delangue, CEO at Hugging Face, [shared](https://www.linkedin.com/posts/clementdelangue_llama-models-arguably-the-most-successful-activity-7313638178022711296-iaet) that Llama just represented 3% of total model downloads on Hugging Face in March. He quoted:

> People and media like stories of winner takes all & one model/company to rule them all but the reality is much more nuanced than this!

I think what that means is that there’s an opportunity for a diverse and decentralized ecosystem of AI models, in particular Open Source AI models.

What are your thoughts?
